Trackvia is a better way than email to provide files to your clients and/or service providers? Instead of emailing files as attachments, create a Trackvia database where each record is simply a name, date and "uploaded document." Then, give your client or service provider access to the database. This system bypasses email restrictions on large attachments, and ensures that you'll be able to keep track of the files you've shared.

Dear Customer,

In this month's newsletter we focus on explaining some recent "behind the scenes" changes we've made to Trackvia that might otherwise escape your notice. So, if you normally just take a quick skim of our newsletter, it may be worth your while to spend a bit more time than normal looking at our news, and seeing if there isn't something new in your Trackvia account that can help you get more value out of it. For example, our flexible "user permissions" feature is one of our most powerful business features, albeit not one of our "sexiest." Now, with our recent updates, you can not only set field permissions and record permissions for each user, but you can also set feature permissions - i.e. to allow or block individual users to access features such as export to Excel. Keep reading for more information.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or comments!

Sincerely,

Matt Strenz

Highlights

Feature Permissions

Here's an example of what we mean when we say that we've built Trackvia to be as flexible as possible. Some of our prospective customers tell us that they wouldn't sign up if we didn't have the option to export to Excel. This feature gives them a means to create their own backups outside of Trackvia, and even to work on their information offline (then using our import feature to update the records in their database to match the updates they made offline - ask us how to do this!). However, other prospective customers tell us that they won't sign up unless they have the ability to remove their users' ability to export to Excel, as their information is proprietary and they don't want it to leave the Trackvia account.

We've built Trackvia to accommodate both scenarios - to give export ability to customers who want it, and to remove it for customers who don't want it. And we've given our customers the power to set these permissions on their own.

Here's the nitty gritty about our new feature to set feature permissions. If you're an account Administrator, you can log in to your Trackvia account, click the Setup link in the upper right corner of the screen, and then click the yellow "Yield" icon next to any database. This will take you to a screen where you can set any permission you wish pertaining to that database. Here's a partial list of features that you can control permissions for:

  • Import and/or export to Excel
  • Print and/or email a report
  • Send an email campaign
  • Create a website form
  • And many more

Account Settings

We've given you more control over some of the important account-level settings for your account. For example, you can now change your custom sub-domain (for example, change to http://acmeinc.trackvia.com from http://acmecorporation.trackvia.com). Also, you can customize the Welcome message that's displayed to you and your users in your Trackvia account. You can change the default message (it currently says Welcome to Trackvia) and have it say something like "Acme's Online Sales Leads" or "Smith Law Firm - all information is confidential." To set these options and more, log in to your Trackvia account, click the Setup link, and then click the Account Settings tab in the upper right.

Premium Features

If you're an existing Trackvia customer and you follow the instructions above and click on the Setup link, under the Account Settings tab, you may notice something else new in your account - a section labeled Premium Features. For our existing customers as of January 27th, many of these Premium Features are included for free, for the life of your account.

The list of premium features includes:

  • Phone Support
  • Website forms and submissions
  • Display a report on your website
  • Receive emails into a database
  • Interactive map view

Built for speed - and updated to stay that way

If you've used other software-as-a-service (i.e. "hosted") applications, you may have noticed that they tend to be much slower than software that you run on your own PC. Well, at Trackvia, we think that our application should be nearly as fast as one that you run on your PC, and we've built our product to live up to that goal. We think Trackvia is simply the fastest hosted application out there, and we intend to make sure it stays that way, even as we add thousands of new users. We recently made some significant updates to the servers that we use to deliver your Trackvia account, and we wanted to mention this just so you'll know that Trackvia is built for speed and is built for the long-run - so you don't need to worry about it slowing down as our customer base grows.
