If businesses were run by eight-year-olds

January 22nd, 2009

I recently read an article about the youngest IT professional, an eight-year-old gifted boy in Macedonia. Equally intrigued and alarmed, I started to wonder what today’s workplace would be like surrounded by eight-year-old colleagues and here are a few of the possibilities I came up with:

  • Business applications would be simple, intuitive and colorful
  • Anything that takes longer than one minute to describe is too complicated
  • Typical work day = two hours work, snack, music/recess, lunch, nap, work, bell rings and everyone goes home
  • Everyone would know exactly where the others stood – kids call it like they see it
  • Mandatory snack breaks
  • Ideas that aren’t fun – get dumped
  • Press releases would start with – Knock Knock
  • Everything would be web-based – kids can’t sit in one place for too long
  • Innovation would take off because kids always move onto the next thing
  • Brainstorms take place on the playground

On second thought, this is starting to sound refreshing…

Website forms

February 11th, 2008

Many of our customers use our website form builder to create forms that send information straight from their website into their Trackvia databases. (If you haven’t tried this feature yet, you should take a look at it through the Tools / website forms link on every database’s overview page. You can try and test this feature straight from your desktop – you don’t have to put the form on a website to see it in action!) Once they get the initial version of the form working, they often find that they want to modify their forms either aesthetically or functionally. There’s actually a huge amount of flexibility with our forms either by modifying the HTML, and/or by adding some JavaScript (don’t let these words scare you by the way, we can help you).

Some of the things we can easily help you with to customize your website forms:

  • Change the database field names to longer or different wording on the form
  • Insert background color or image
  • Format the font (size, color, type)

Also, you can use JavaScript to make your form more functional! Some popular requests for modifying the form are to have the “today” link and the “more” options for date fields that you see in TrackVia. We’ve even built custom JavaScript functions that send an email to the correct person depending on what office is selected from a dropdown list for customers. If you would like for your form to do something special, please email us at support@trackvia.com.
