You see, I was found as a stray, and, oh boy, was I scared! When I was found I was a very sorry sight as my coat was a mess, and I had lots of little critters all over me and oh, they did hurt, but with lots of TLC and a good bath all are gone. I had to travel a long distance to arrive here at my foster home. He prefers that you sit on the floor and that you don’t reach toward his head, and it helps if you have his favorite toy. Though indoor life is all new to Cooper, he has quickly figured out what soft beds are, how to play with toys, and how to be first in line for popcorn. Once he has had time to build trust, Cooper is affectionate and wants to be near his people. He will sit in your lap for a little while but prefers to be active and playing.
FENCE: A securely fenced yard is required. Cooper is young and energetic and needs the exercise, and it would be difficult to catch him if he escaped. He spent his life in a very small enclosure and he loves the freedom now of the fenced yard. He needs to be kept on a leash at first, even in a fenced yard, because he may be reluctant to come to someone new initially. His new family will need to be vigilant when coming and going from the house, as he likes to sneak out the door at lightning speed!
DOGS: Cooper is very social with the dogs in his foster home and seeks out their company. He also watches and gets cues from them about how to behave, and needs a canine companion in his forever home for those reasons. He doesn’t let his size be a disadvantage in playing with our larger Sheltie. They both tear around and play until they are panting from exertion and grinning from ear to ear.
CATS: Unknown - no cats in his foster home.
KIDS: Unknown - Cooper has had no exposure to children in his foster home, and it is unlikely he did in his previous life either. Because of his reluctance about having his head touched, no children or very gentle children 12 years or older would be best.
CRATE-TRAINED: Yes, and Cooper should be crated at this time. He is still learning what to chew on and what not to. He has a fondness for paper and wicker baskets. Cooper is crated for about 5-6 hours when we are gone and sleeps in a doggie bed beside our bed at night.
HOUSETRAINING: Cooper is doing very well with housebreaking. He has no mishaps overnight, and most of the time does fine if he is let out on a regular schedule. He doesn’t know to ask to go out but will go out with the other dogs.
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Cooper has had no obedience training and is just learning what a leash is.
CAR: Cooper appears to like car rides but does get carsick.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Cooper has a medium activity level. He loves to run and dash around the house and yard. He is very physical in his play with the other dogs. He needs someone committed to providing him with lots of attention, play and diversions.
BARKING: Cooper has not been excessively barky (for a Sheltie). He gets excited and barks when we get home, when he needs to alert us to something, or to sound the alarm, but is quiet otherwise.
HEALTH ISSUES: Cooper has an old injury to a front paw. Cold weather seems to bother him and he favors that paw outside when it is cold. We had the area examined by a veterinarian and X-rayed and no additional care or treatment was advised. It does not prevent him from running and playing with his canine pals!

Cooper needs a home that understands that he will be fearful at first. He will duck and run and will need time to warm up to new people. His new family needs to be patient with this, be willing to accommodate his needs, and not try to push him beyond his comfort zone. It will take patience and time but once Cooper trusts, he is the most affectionate and playful little Sheltie. Once he feels comfortable and safe in his new home, he can gradually be introduced to new things and experiences. Cooper has adapted well to living in our home. He likes to hang back and observe until he figures things out. Now when I bring a new toy or nylabone home, Cooper is the first to pick it up and make it his. I also can’t leave a book laying around because Cooper loves to pull out every book mark he sees sticking out. He will make everything and anything into a game. She would do fine as an only dog, or in a home with a non-dominant dog.
CATS: Ignores the dog-savvy cat in her foster home.
KIDS: Unknown - no kids in her foster home, although she should not go to a home with young kids due to her shyness. She may do fine with calm, gentle children who are older.
HOUSETRAINED: With a routine of scheduled potty times, and limited freedom, Cagney has done well with housetraining. Her adopter will need to continue with this, especially intially.
CRATE TRAINED: Yes
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Not yet.
LEASH MANNERS: Cagney needs training to learn how to walk on a leash.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate - Cagney is playful with other dogs.
BARKING: Average for a Sheltie.
HEALTH ISSUES: No known health issues.
EXPERIENCED HOME: Yes, or with a home that has previously owned or cared for a shy, unsocialized dog.

Cagney enjoys her grooming sessions. She’s very well behaved, even stoically enduring her pedicure (which many many shelties consider the ultimate torture). When she gets off the table, she acts like any girl who’s just had a successful style/trim and KNOWS she looks HOT.
Can you give this precious Sheltie girl a new chance at life, and show her what a loving home environment is all about? You will be rewarded many, many times over....she will be very grateful for a wonderful forever home.
--------------------------------------------------

Jasper

Jasper is a beautiful blue merle Sheltie with a lot of personality.
